Today is TPT product review day and this week I decided to review a product I recently downloaded from TeachersPayTeachers titled…Project Based Learning: Teacher for the Day Fractions, Decimals, Percents
I used this Fractions, Decimals, Percents resource in my grade 7 math classroom after our unit of mean, median, mode and range and found it to be the perfect bridge to launch the Fractions, Decimals, Percents outcomes. A huge thank you and a shout out to Performing in Education for creating this high-quality free product.
So let’s jump right into my review of Project Based Learning: Teacher for the Day Fractions, Decimals, Percents and my top three reasons why I loved this product!!!!
1. Group work and Collaboration with Fractions, Decimals, Percents
As most of you know, I am a big fan of group work and this product definitely delivered. Project Based Learning: Teacher for the Day Fractions, Decimals, Percents allowed for a review of all the concepts covered so far this year.
In a nut shell, students create a “quiz” and become teachers… having to correct, and find the measures of central tendencies. It was brilliant! I can honestly say my students were totally engaged for the three classes it took to complete the assignment.
2. Reviewing past concepts in a real way
I also loved that by writing a quiz based on outcomes we have already covered, my students used their interactive notebooks and other tools to review the concepts in order to create good quiz questions.
The conversations and discussions I heard were priceless and so important….
“We should have a challenge question where they have to subtract a negative integer. I remember many of us had a hard time with that!”
3. Self-reflection of how students should present their work for teachers.
I loved that while students were correcting their tests they realized how important it is to show all their work in a neat and organized fashion.
As they struggled to correct their peers work, I heard many students say… ” I get why Madame Kenny wants us to organize our math work!”
In conclusion…
I would definitely recommend you download this TPT product if you’re currently teaching Fractions, Decimals, Percents. It really got my students engaged and I really found it a fantastic resource which I will most definitely use again in the future.
