Tasks cards are great because with the right preparation you can easily use your task cards over and over again and can be used to promote all three strands or simply emphasise just one.
You could create your own task cards, but today there are more and more Science task cards available for sale online, particularly on Teacherspayteachers. Here are examples of three different ways I use task cards in my classroom.
My latest product is a set of 32 solar system task cards that I use with my grade 6 Science students. Here is how I’ve used them…
1. Entry – Exit questions
Entry and exit tickets are short prompts that can provide you with a quick check for understanding. With task cards you can individualize them.
2. Cards to play Grudgeball
My students love to play this game as a review. Never heard of Grundgeball? Click here for instructions on this game.
3. Partner interview
One student asks the question and the other answers it in a complete sentence. This activity allows middle school science learners to read the scientific vocabulary as well as “talk the scientific talk”.
Task cards are a great way to add variety to your lessons. Task cards are versatile as well as engaging. I also love using task cards as pre-assessments, mid unit check ins and also a tool for reviews. If you would like to purchase my science, math of French task cards. Visit my store
