In the beginning there was…
La Murale de mots

I taught early French Immersion for years, which is where I first learned all about using The Word Wall…aka in French…La Murale de Mots.
In its infancy, we were given lists of words that each grade level should be able to read or write.
We then wrote out these words on cue cards and plastered them all over the walls of our classrooms.
Soon thereafter we developed best practices, interactive, authentic, and contextualized practices to use word walls.
Hmmmmm… Word walls worked…
Especially in French Immersion… I was a big fan!!! I knew all the word wall games and even developed a few of my own along the way.
But I’m a Middle School Teacher now….
After teaching at the elementary levels for the past 8 or so years I made the leap to middle school… A Middle School Science teacher (so excited!!!)…. So being a fan…and a reflective teacher…. I asked myself “Is there a place for a Word Wall in a Middle School Science class?”
What are your thoughts? Do you use Word Walls in your Middle School Science class?
