“Qu’est-ce qu’on fait Madame?”
All week staff has been bringing me eggshells and all week during indoor recess and as early finisher volunteered, students have been painting eggshells, and all week students have been asking “Qu’est-ce qu’on fait Madame?”… and all week I’ve been answering…”C’est une surprise!”
On Friday the wait was over!
On Friday, Mme Pacaud came to our class! We were very proud to show her our “Murale de mots grècque” that we have been working on, and she shared with us some example of words we would add to our word wall.
Next Madame Pacaud shared with is some examples of mosaic art done my the ancient Greek artists.
Then finally….the eggshells!!!!
As we looked at other examples of Greek mosaic art pieces, the students quickly realized “THAT’S WHAT THE EGGSHELLS ARE FOR!”…
Madame Pacaud showed the students how to create a border around their canvas and draw a simple drawing in the center ‘box”. Then students were told to “paint” one area of the canvas with glue. Next came the fun part…. Students placed a painted eggshell on the area covered with glue and pressed down until the eggshell cracked. Students then painted the top to create a mosaic canvas.
While the students created their own tile work, there was an excited calmness in the room….(Only way I can describe it)
This is an example of an unfinished piece. We will be working on them over the course of next week. I will make sure I post some finished examples.
