Communication with parents is important, but in the busy-ness of the day, it can sometimes be forgotten. I have some very proficient colleagues in this area. This is an aspect of teaching I work on every year.
We all have stories of difficult parents; however we all have great success stories where working with parents resulted in great results for our students. Parents and teachers both want to do what’s best for our students…we simply might not always agree on what that is….
How do you communicate with your parents? Here is a list I have compiled, but would love you hear how you are keeping your parents informed on the day to day learning in your room, special events and their child’s progress.
The list…
- Create an inviting classroom where parents feel welcomed.
- Voicemail
- Class blog
- Newsletter
- Progress monitoring report
- Progress report
- Notes in the Agenda
- Good news postcards
- Good news…and not so good news phone calls
- School website
- The meeting
