Today’s post is about French Immersion students reading and understanding directions…
Now please don’t get me wrong… I am definitely NOT all about handing out worksheets.
But the way I use these teaching tools is for evaluation purposes…it really allows me the opportunity to evaluate on a per child basis so I am able to see which “direction” students are having difficulty with. The following day, I go over the troubling words by getting students to orally give their partner a direction. The partner then follows the direction.
My students loved to challenge their partners, and I was able to easily pick up on trouble spots such as “sous” and “sur”.
What’s worked for me is that I get the students to work on one page a day. This shouldn’t take anymore then let’s say 3 minutes tops… I really try and focus on opportunities for students to speak in French…this way I’m able to support not only their speaking skills, but also their comprehension skills.
